![]() This is especially true when there’s a lot of tuning and aftermarket potential. Performance cars and turbocharged engines are generally a little more demanding. then its hello engine rebuild also, the fit and finish of the z is superior to the sti imho. pretty much garunteed to crack them in a couple weeks at that hp level. stis have, and have had forever, ringland issues when u go over 400whp. These engines often don’t earn the best regards for reliability compared to lower performance Subaru engines. HOWEVER, even with the z being na, it can handle high hp MUCH better than stis. Just a fun little post for those looking/wanting to reach this power level with the cost of it and having a realistic view of it. Is the Subaru WRX and WRX STI reliable Yes and no. The car is driven very hard, competitive driving. I own a 11' STi and was wondering if attempting to do this is a good idea. With labor you'd be looking at roughly 5k more. This is for any tuners or any owners that have experience with making 400whp on the stock motor. This does not include cost for labor, I did all the labor myself. This Setup has the possibility of hitting 500 with a forged motor. It is running a low tune and held here to not blow pistons until forge motor is ready. My STI hit 408/425 at 21 PSI of boost w/ E85. Now this post is not to talk about risk of engine, blowing up pistons ect, its a post to let you know what you need and the cost to do it. As I am sure many of you have thought about 400HP WRX/STI, and wondering how much it can cost to obtain and have it be semi reliable without blowing it to hell. I want to get to a good point to slow down my modding on my 2011 n55 e90 since. ![]()
